Your concerns, addressed

It’s natural to have questions before eye surgery. Here are honest answers to the concerns we hear most often.

Is eye surgery safe?

Modern eye surgery is among the safest and most successful procedures in medicine. Mr El Housseini performs every procedure personally, using proven techniques and advanced technology, and will explain all risks clearly beforehand.

Most procedures are carried out under local anaesthetic, either drops or a small injection, so you shouldn’t feel pain during surgery,  just some gentle pressure or movement. Mild grittiness or discomfort in the first day or two afterwards is normal and settles quickly.

Costs vary depending on the procedure and are always agreed in writing before any treatment begins, with no hidden fees. As a guide, laser vision correction starts from £1,800 per eye, cataract surgery from £1,200 per eye, and refractive lens exchange from £3,500 per eye. You’ll receive a full, personalised quote at your consultation.

Recovery time depends on the procedure. Cataract and refractive lens exchange surgery typically involve a few days of downtime, laser vision correction can be anywhere from a day to a week depending on the technique used, and retinal surgery may take one to four weeks. Mr El Housseini will confirm exactly what to expect for your specific treatment during your consultation.

Suitability depends on your individual condition, prescription and overall eye health. This is assessed thoroughly at a full diagnostic consultation, where Mr El Housseini will confirm which options, if any are right for you, with no pressure either way.

Every procedure carries some level of risk, and this will be explained to you clearly and honestly before you decide to go ahead. Follow-up appointments and aftercare are included as standard, so your recovery is closely monitored, and Mr El Housseini and his team remain available to address any concerns that arise.
